Its purpose is to advocate, educate and plan for the protection of the natural resources and biodiversity in the watersheds of the four rivers region of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The Rock, Kishwaukee, Sugar and Pecatonica are each unique and beautiful rivers rich with historical, recreational and biological value. Our Northern Illinois chapter is a friendly mix of couples and singles of all levels, from beginner to competitor. The general public is warmly invited to attend all of our events. 4th Saturday Ballroom Dance in Belvidere – every fourth Saturday of the month we hold a dance at the beautiful Community Building Complex of Boone County (Belvidere Community Center), 111 W. 1st St, Belvidere, IL. We start with a one hour lesson at 7:00, general dancing begins at 8:00. Mixers and exhibitions take place throughout the evening. (Note - the date will be moved if the 4th Saturday falls on Christmas Eve/Day. Also - the 4th Saturday of the month is not always the last Saturday of the month!) 2nd Saturday Ballroom Dance in Rockford – on the second Saturday of the month, September through November, and January through May in Rockford. 2nd Saturday dances are held at the Arthur Murray Studio, 7326 N. Cherry Vale Mall Dr., Rockford, IL. General dancing begins at 7:30. Admission to our dances is $6.00 for USA Dance members, $8.00 for non-members, and $2.00 for students.

Golden Apple Foundation Inspires, Celebrates and Supports Excellence in Education.

The Cherry Valley Public Library District began as a village library on April 19, 1977 when seven persons were elected to serve as library trustees. The first building to house the library was Fisher's former store at 209 E. State Street, Cherry Valley. In 1978 the library trustees hired a librarian and applied for membership in the Northern Illinois Library System. By July 1979 there were 4,000 books on the shelves and 351 cardholders (167 adults and 184 children). In 1980, Revenue Sharing Grants were approved by both the Cherry Valley Village Board and the Cherry Valley Township Board and many books and materials were purchased. A Village Board grant of $20,000 was earmarked for purchase of a new library building. The library moved across the street to 202 E. State Street, the former Ekedahl Tool Building, and remained there for 9 years. In 1983, a referendum was passed creating the Cherry Valley Public Library District, thus increasing the size of the population served from 1,000 to 10,955 (1990 census). A new, larger library building was needed. Voters passed a referendum in April 1988 to build a new library building. The library moved to 755 E. State Street, its current location, in November 1989. The 13,300 square foot building now contains a collection of 63,508 print and audio-visual items, 162 subscrptions, 11,845 ebooks and 11 reference databases. The library serves a population of 20,000, and is open 62 hours per week (7 days a week Sept.-June).

Our facilities include wilderness cabins, a camping area, dining and meeting rooms, and seven retreat houses able to accommodate 6-56 guests. Located in Oregon, IL, the beauty of nature exists in a variety of environments, all along bluffs overlooking the Rock River. Founded in 1963, Stronghold Center proudly continues to provide a variety of Christian and secular programming and events. Our unique programming includes summer camps for ages 6-18, challenge courses, and a Confirmation Retreat. In October, Stronghold hosts the annual Olde English Faire. Stronghold is also a great location for one-day seminars, business meetings and professional development programs, church picnics, and family reunions!

College of Medicine Since 1972, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford has focused on developing an optimal learning environment for training healthcare professionals, conducting innovative research and improving the health and wellness of our society. Academic programs include Doctor of Medicine, Rural Medical Education Program, Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology, Family Medicine Residency and Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. Patients can get university-level family health care at the L.P. Johnson Family Health Center on State Street in Rockford and at the UI Health Rochelle Family Health Center. College of Nursing The UIC College of Nursing Rockford Regional Program opened in 1992. The nursing regional site offers access to a wide variety of graduate programs in diverse specialties. In addition to several master’s programs, the program offers the Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Classes are offered in a variety of formats – in person, videoconference and online. Clinical experiences are arranged and supervised by faculty at a variety of sites in and around the Rockford area. College of Pharmacy In a direct response to the continuing shortage of pharmacists in Illinois, the College of Pharmacy created its Rockford regional program. The first class of students was admitted in 2010 and will complete all four years of pharmacy education on the Rockford campus and at clerkship sites throughout the state. Students in the Rockford program will complete all of the same coursework as students on the Chicago campus. Select students from rural backgrounds will be admitted to the rural pharmacy (RPharm) program, training with medical students from the College of Medicine at Rockford Rural Medical Education (RMED) program.

Stronghold Center is a four-season retreat and camping center, operated by the Presbytery of Blackhawk, Presbyterian Church (USA). Our facilities include wilderness cabins, a camping area, dining and meeting rooms, and seven retreat houses able to accommodate 6-56 guests. Located in Oregon, IL, the beauty of nature exists in a variety of environments, all along bluffs overlooking the Rock River. Founded in 1963, Stronghold Center proudly continues to provide a variety of Christian and secular programming and events. Our unique programming includes summer camps for ages 6-18, challenge courses, and a Confirmation Retreat. In October, Stronghold hosts the annual Olde English Faire. Known today as The Ethnic Heritage Museum it is here that you will find six fascinating galleries devoted to the primary immigrant groups that settled in southwest Rockford, IL. African-American, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish. Through displays of early Rockford area maps, everyday artifacts, vintage clothing and more, visitors of all ages can learn about Old World customs and traditions. Historical photographs tell the stories of the earliest settlers who established factories near the old "waterpower district" and built their homes nearby. By comparing early with current lifestyles, the museum strives to bridge the gap between yesterday and today ... encouraging visitors to relive the past with a clear focus on Rockford's bright future. Our adoption qualifications are that everyone in the household must come in and meet the animal. If you are looking at a dog and already have one, then we must have a dog meeting to make sure they get along. If you rent then we need a copy of your lease stating that you can have a pet and any size/breed restrictions. If there is a pet deposit then that needs to be paid prior to picking up your new pet and we will need to have a copy of that also. The adoption fee is $175 for dogs that are 7 months and older. Adoption fee is $275 for puppies 7 months and younger. Kitten adoptions are $85, cats over 7 months old are $40. All animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots for their age, and will have a rabies vaccination if they are older than 4 months.

Pec Playhouse Theatre is a volunteer-run community theater in northern Illinois. Because we are volunteer-run, we do not have regular business hours. However, feel free to call us our leave a message here -- we are generally quick to respond to our patrons. Pec Playhouse Theatre exists as an educational and charitable organization dedicated to the study, practice, and production of theatre and the related arts. We strive to provide quality theatre programs and related events for the greater enjoyment and appreciation of the people of Pecatonica, its surrounding communities, and the general public. We provide opportunities and encouragement to anyone having an active interest in theatre and related arts, including students and other young people, to use their talents, energies and ideas in the accomplishment of our goals.Pecatonica is a quiet little town nestled in the beautiful countryside of Northern Illinois, a wonderful place to visit annual events, browse the antique shops and other local stores, away from the big city. Just off of U.S. Highway 20, Pecatonica is easily accessible via many routes. Pec Playhouse Theatre (PPT) was formed in 1991 by a group of Pecatonica High School students and recent graduates who wanted to continue performing in theater after high school. With the help of some supportive adults, PPT was organized and produced its first show, Out of the Frying Pan. This show was funded entirely by membership dues and proceeds from a car wash. In these early years, shows were performed mostly at Pecatonica High School and occasionally at the American Legion Hall. By 1994, PPT began producing summer musicals with The Wizard of Oz, which marked a new attendance record. In the summer of 1995, PPT mentored the newly-formed Byron Civic Theatre in presenting its first production, Annie Get Your Gun. PPT was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1997. In 1999, PPT became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, making most contributions to PPT tax-deductible. Meanwhile, Pecatonica High School ended its theater program. So, in 1998, PPT produced You Can’t Take It With You as the first of what was to become an annual main-stage show featuring high school students. As time and space at the high school became increasingly scarce, PPT entered into an agreement in 1998 with the Pecatonica Heritage Museum to use space in their building complex. This arrangement allowed Pec Playhouse to expand their schedule to five shows per year. As the years went by, theater seats, air conditioning, heating, lights, sound equipment, and bathrooms were added to the facility. With the help of 2 amazing contributors, Pecatonica Pharmacy and George Anderson, and the support of German American State Bank, PPT was able to purchase the building in late 2004. In 2007 the donation of newer, more comfortable theater seats from a Rockford Memorial Hospital made the PPT theater experience even more enjoyable for our patrons. Since that time, volunteers and friends of PPT continue to work to improve the building and the theater - one amazing project being the complete remodeling of the former doctor's apartment upstairs into a wonderful dressing and make-up area. We’re grateful to all of our friends and volunteers who have donated their time and energy over the years, and to our patrons and donors who keep us going. We are excited about the future of Pec Playhouse, and hope you’ll want to be a part!
